By
The body of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who apparently committed suicide after a radio station's hoax phone call about the Duchess of Cambridge, has arrived in India.

The 46-year-old's body was accompanied from the UK by her husband and two children and is now in the city of Mangalore in Karnataka state awaiting burial, reports BBC News.

Saldanha was found dead near London's King Edward VII hospital where Kate Middleton had been treated for acute morning sickness.

Days before her apparent suicide, she had taken a hoax call from two Australian DJs pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles.

The funeral will take place at Our Lady of Health Church in the town of Shirva, Karnataka on Monday (December 17).

Saldanha's husband Benedict Barboza and their daughter Lisha, 14, and son Junal, 16, will attend the funeral along with as many as 5,000 people, according to AFP.

India has closely followed the story and some have even called for an independent investigation into Saldanha's death. A hospital in Mangalore, where she studied nursing, is planning to create a memorial award.

On Thursday, an inquest at Westminster's Coroner Court found that Saldanha was discovered hanged and that she left three suicide notes.
