BBC Radio Devon's DRM trial starts
Published Monday, Apr 16 2007, 13:01 BST | By James Welsh
The BBC and National Grid Wireless have started a trial of digital radio mondiale in the Plymouth area.
Analogue broadcasts of BBC Radio Devon on 855kHz medium wave were replaced by DRM broadcasts on April 12, DS forum member Frank1 has reported.
The year-long trial is being branded as "digital medium wave" by Radio Devon and officially starts on April 23.
DRM broadcasts are designed to deliver near-FM quality sound using existing AM frequency allocations and advanced digital compression techniques.
