Published Monday, Apr 16 2007, 20:09 BST | By James Welsh
Digital One, the UK's national digital radio multiplex, has confirmed plans to bring 10 new transmitters into operation to enable it to achieve 90% coverage of the UK population.

Virgin Radio, Classic FM and theJazz are among the national commercial stations carried on the multiplex.

The multiplex operator said today that the expanded transmitter network would bring first-time or improved Digital One coverage to approximately 1.894m people.

"With sales of digital radios nearly at 5 million, we felt the time had come give even more listeners a chance to access the national commercial stations on our network," said Digital One chief executive Quentin Howard. "We have already gone well beyond our original coverage commitment and will continue to champion DAB digital radio as the technology of choice for radio listeners across the country."

The new transmitters will be located at: Selkirk; Riddings Hill; Whitehaven; Workington; Bridlington; Scarborough; Whitby; Chesterfield; Newhaven and Eastbourne.
