Sky Sports to be available on NOW TV later in 2013

Sky Sports is to be made available on the NOW TV service later this year.

Customers will be able to have unlimited access to all six Sky Sports channels for a 24-hour period for £9.99 each time.

The internet service currently provides access to Sky Movies, and registered 25,000 monthly pass customers at the end of December. A beta test for Sky Sports was implemented last month.

The announcement was made as BSkyB unveiled its second quarter results for up to December 31, 2012.

Sky On Demand customers increased by 70% in six months to 1.7 million in the last quarter, with weekly downloads doubling to 4.4 million in December.

Sky Go users have risen nearly 50% year-on-year, with 3.1 million unique users in the Q2. Highlights include 230,000 watching the Manchester Derby match, and 850,000 watching An Idiot Abroad 3.

On Sky Movies, the Sky Movies 007 channel reached over 5 million viewers, and total movie downloads across all platforms doubling to 30 million year-on-year.

Sky Sports F1 was watched by over 9 million viewers in its first season, while Sky Arts also hit 9 million viewers each month, over double its amount the previous year.

Overall, nearly 1,000 new customers are joining Sky each day, with an 88,000 net growth for the quarter.

Sky added 50,000 customers in Q2, with 25,000 joining NOW TV. Sky Broadband also rose by 132,000.
