BAFTAs red carpet show going 360 degrees with EE

By
Film fans wanting to watch the action from the red carpet at the 2013 BAFTAs will be able to do so via four interactive 360 degree cameras, as part of an initiative by mobile network EE.

The EE BAFTAs 360 Degree Red Carpet Show will be broadcast live from the ceremony on February 10, with host Laura Whitmore interviewing the stars of movies such as Life of Pi, Lincoln, Django Unchained, Les Misérables and Skyfall.

In what is being described as a "technologically-charged first for the awards", viewers tuning in to the stream on EE's Facebook page or the EE Film mobile app will be able to choose from four completely interactive 360 degree cameras situated along the red carpet.

With full gyroscopic control, they will be free to pan left, right, up and down with each of the four cameras to get "a totally unique and personalised view of the star-studded red carpet".

On the EE Film app for iOS and Android, the 360 degree video player will utilise the device's in-built gyroscope to let viewers physically turn themselves and the device to the left and right to watch the action - as though they were on the red carpet in person.

On Facebook.com/EE, viewers will be able to experience the full 360 degree stream and switch between the four cameras, as well as interact with other viewers. A highlights edit of the show will be released on February 11.

"For EE's first year of partnership with the Film Awards, we knew we wanted to do something truly ambitious and to use technology to enhance the BAFTA experience," said EE brand director Spencer McHugh.

"EE is a brand built around how the magic of technology can improve our everyday lives, and with the 360° show we're aiming to make what is one of Britain's most glamorous evenings even better."

Presenter Laura Whitmore added: "I literally cannot wait to get onto that red carpet and to host the show. I've never done a 360 degree show before but I've been practicing with the technology and we're going to have lots of fun showing a side to the red carpet you'd never normally get to see. Roll on Sunday."
