Wogan and Humphrys re-sign for BBC

BBC radio's Terry Wogan and John Humphrys have signed up to stay in their roles for another two years.

Humphrys, the lead presenter of Radio 4's Today programme, told MediaGuardian his new deal "will definitely be my last". However, he added: "But I have said that for the last four contracts."

Wogan, Radio 2's veteran breakfast host, said he for one was happy in his position: "I have signed a new contract until 2009. And, if I am spared, I will continue until hell freezes over."

Speaking after winning news journalist of the year, and Today getting best breakfast show, Humphrys hinted at a criticism of his bosses' spending arrangements.

"We are now having to cut a lot of money out of the news budget," commented the controversial host. "Quite a lot of that money has gone on things you could argue were less core to what the BBC was about. You can decide for yourself what that is about. I'll leave that hanging in the air."
