"I'm hugely looking forward to coming back and want to give it my all but recovering from a stroke does take time," Marr said.

"We've taken the decision to start with the Sunday show in the autumn and I'm delighted to be returning to present Start the Week on Radio 4 later on in the year."

The 53-year-old spent two months in hospital earlier this year following the stroke and has had months of physiotherapy to help him walk again.

His voice and memory were unaffected but the left side of his body was weakened. Marr recently said that he feels "lucky to be alive".

Guest presenters such as Jeremy Vine and Sophie Raworth have filled in for him in his absence.
