'Loaded' editor responds to 'modesty bag' plans for lads' mags

By
Loaded magazine editor Jamie Wallis has responded to The Co-operative's calls for lads' mags to be sold in "modesty bags".

Following Nuts magazine's launch of its own "Hands off our Nuts!" counter-campaign against UK Feminista, Loaded has issued its own statement.

Wallis said : "Our covers have portrayed imagery and wording in line with women's lifestyle and fitness magazines, as well as men's titles including FHM, Esquire and GQ.

"Furthermore, our covers have been no more overtly sexual than adverts in newspapers and on television shown before the 9pm watershed."

He continued: "If supermarkets cave in to bullying from pressure groups - which are, of course, within their rights to express their views, but ultimately a loud minority - they are allowing censorship, which is a very real threat to the free press and freedom of speech in the UK.

"The precedent that is potentially being set here is disturbing. We trust common sense and the right to an uncensored media will prevail."
