Emap's chief executive Tom Moloney has resigned after 26 years at the firm.
The company says Moloney left by mutual agreement. Emap's non-executive chairman Alun Cathcart has stepped in until a permanent successor is hired.
As well as magazine titles like FHM and Heat, Emap brands include radio stations Kiss and Magic.
The announcement comes ahead of Emap's full-year results, to be released on Tuesday. In March this year the company predicted sales of its UK consumer magazines to have fallen by 2%.
