'Blue Peter' editor steps down
Published Thursday, May 17 2007, 17:53 BST | By Joanne Oatts
The editor of Blue Peter, Richard Marson, has stepped down from his role two months after the show apologised for faking the results of a competition.
Marson has been offered a role as an executive producer within the CBBC working on independent projects.
A technical problem on the show in November meant viewers calling Blue Peter to enter a competition could not get through, so the production team selected a child visiting the studio to pose as the winning caller. The matter has since been blamed on a junior researcher who "acted in a panic."
An investigation, conducted by former BBC chief adviser of editorial policy Andrea Wills, was commissioned by director of BBC Vision Jana Bennett. The report is now being circulated to senior BBC executives and the BBC Trust.
