Xfm confirms DJ-free daytime
Published Friday, May 18 2007, 09:27 BST | By Dave West
Xfm has confirmed rumours it will drop DJs during the daytime - leaving listeners to pick their playlist.
The radio station, which runs operations in London, Scotland and Manchester, will be free of presenters from the end of the breakfast show, at 10am, until the beginning of drivetime, at 4pm.
Under the initiative, branded Radio to the Power of U, the playlist will be selected by listeners' suggestions.
Nick Davidson, Xfm managing director, said: "Our listeners are used to being able to control what they watch or listen to as these days people are inundated with choice. Allowing them to shape their own content seems the next logical step."
On www.xfm.co.uk listeners will be able to put together their own playlists from the station's full music library, as well as record messages for broadcast.
Across the three stations six DJs will lose their daytime slots from May 29. A spokeswoman for GCap, which owns Xfm, said no presenters or production staff would lose jobs, although their hours would be reduced.
