Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment made a bid to purchase its parent company CKX.
The deal, in the range of £650 million, is jointly being made by CKX chairman and chief executive Robert Sillerman.
CKX bought 19 Entertainment in 2005 for more than £100 million, making Fuller a director in a six-year deal.
Fuller and Sillerman have said a proposal had been put to the CKX board to "enter into a series of transactions". The CKX board is discussing the deal today and is expected to make an announcement this afternoon.
As well as 19, CKX owns the assets of the Elvis Presley estate, as well as name and image rights of stars such as Muhammed Ali.
