The RadioCentre is asking listeners to air their views on the state of the medium via an online survey.
'The Big Listen' is a week long marketing campaign that will inform the RadioCentre's response to the current Ofcom consultation on the future of radio.
The industry has recently criticised Ofcom for failing to do enough to help commercial radio adapt to the changes faced by the sector.
Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre, said: "This is about engagement with radio audiences on an unprecedented scale at a critical time for the future of radio."
"The Big Listen will involve all the different genres of radio station from music to talk, from local to national. We want to ensure that all our listeners of every age group and background have the chance to influence the future of their radio," he added.
Special programming will air this week on local and national stations. Celebrities Peter Snow, Gail Porter, Kim Catrall, Jamie Cullum, and Susanne Vega will appear in interviews with Gail Porter talking about the importance of radio.
The week will culminate in The Big Debate, a live show which will be broadcast on over 50 radio stations on Sunday June 17. National stations TalkSport and Classic FM will also be running specially commissioned programmes.
