A top BBC executive producer has quit the corporation saying that its factual department is suffering.
Simon Ford has told Broadcast that there is a "crisis in confidence" with the department. In March this year BBC head of documentaries Alan Hayling, left the BBC citing frustration at the decline of its in-house factual output.
BBC production staff are reportedly finding it difficult to obtain work, with the corporation's Window of Creative Competition (WoCC) restricting commissions. Regional quotas, meaning production in the nations is to increase by 50% over the six years from November 2005, is also impacting on factual commissions.
A BBC spokeswoman told the publication: "Factual is adjusting to the quotas for 'out of London ' and the arrival of the WoCC. Inevitably, increasing competition is a challenge and some areas within factual have felt it more than others."
