Coxy: Radio 1 has 'upped its game'

Asked to describe the changes she has witnessed at the station since joining it in 1999, the station's former breakfast show presenter said:
"I've been here for 48 years! Yes, a heck of a long time. I think the station's really upped its game - probably since getting rid of me on Breakfast! Before we used to rule the airwaves - we'd get 80 million on Breakfast - but now we don't take any of it for granted. We're totally on top of the game - you've got to do more on the interweb and get active. You can't be lazy and expect people to tune in because there's so much competition now. I like to think One is, more than ever, ahead of the game.
"We try and provide the best music and entertainment and just really reach people. I think that's why a lot of the Big Weekends are so successful - we've taken them to Dundee or Preston, and we're doing live music for the first time for free. When we did Preston the other week it was mindblowing. I think we're good at live music. We're just good at reaching people, really."
Cox currently presents a weekend afternoon show for the station.
