Kent’s kmfm Radio Group have signed up radio legend Tony Blackburn to present a weekly show dedicated to his favourite tunes.
The DJ, who presented the first breakfast show on Radio 1 in the 1960s, will take over from Sunday August 5 with a 4-7pm show.
kmfm’s group programme controller Steve Fountain said: "We’re so excited and proud to be bringing a truly legendary broadcaster to Kent. He’s such a massive character and clearly people love Tony following his success in the [I'm a Celebrity] jungle. He’ll be playing some of his favourite music on a Sunday which is offering our listeners something quite different at that time of day. It also reinforces our Best Music Variety promise to our audience."
Kmfm has recently had its best audience figures ever with 27% more people choosing to listen every week, according to the Q1 Rajar figures.
Blackburn said: I am very excited about joining kmfm and getting the chance to open my record box to the people of Kent who have been deprived the chance of hearing me for too long. I'm hoping that following their Sunday Roast they'll be sitting down and tuning in to kmfm to see what I will be cooking up for them."
The DJ, who is releasing his autobiography later this year, will join a host of former offshore radio DJs at the Radio Academy's 'Celebration of Offshore Radio' this Saturday in London.
