Duncan: Time shift a 'logical strategic move'
Published Friday, Aug 3 2007, 10:29 BST | By Joanne Oatts
Channel 4 is to become the first terrestrial broadcaster in the UK to transmit a time-shifted version of its core TV channel, when it launches the new service on August 20.
The new +1 channel will be an exact replica of Channel 4’s schedule on a one-hour delay, including all live programming, US acquisitions and TV advertising including regional variations.
Andy Duncan, chief executive of Channel 4, said: "This gives our viewers another opportunity to watch Channel 4’s high-quality content whilst ensuring maximum value from our investment in commissioned programming."
"Given the ongoing shift in consumer behaviour within television, we believe the launch of Channel 4+1 is a logical strategic move. It’s consistent with our commitment to do everything appropriate to secure Channel 4’s public service model longer term," he added.
Though Channel 4 has already had a strong track record launching time shifted channels with +1 versions available of E4, More4 and Film4, some of these +1 services will now be removed from certain platforms after Channel 4+1 launches following platform specific modifications.
At launch Channel 4+1 will be available on Freeview, Sky Digital and Virgin Media. The new EPG numbers for each platform can be viewed here.
