BBC Urdu site apologises

The BBC has paid damages to a London man after it published defamatory allegations about him on its Urdu-language website.
The article with the headline "Husband used to beat me up" on BBCUrdu.com on September 14 made allegations about Shakeel Saleem's marriage.
According to The Guardian, the BBC admitted it had not verified the allegations made by Saleem's wife and should not have published it.
The corporation apologised to Saleem in Urdu on the website and agreed to pay his damages.
