HypTV to become 'creative hub'
Published Friday, Aug 24 2007, 08:05 BST | By Joanne Oatts
A new web TV service has launched which will showcase the work of creatives from around the globe.
HypTV, launched by advertising creatives Dave Osborn-Cook and Bob Palmer, will broadcast short films, advertising ideas, music, VJ visuals, photography and art on its online TV platform in short 30 second to 15 minute video pods.
As well as being able to watch content via the website - www.hyptv.com - the service is also available on the Information TV satellite platform on Sky channel 167, with the best content shown in an hour-long programme.
"We're reaching the point where user-generated content needs to be a little more controlled. The time for a sort of UGC2 is arriving, particularly where TV platforms are concerned," said Dave Cook, chief operating officer and programme director. "There's also a gap in the market for a true creative hub. Where all creative genres come together in a kaleidoscopic mix. HYPtv will be a true multiplatform experience where gifted amateurs, students, hardened professionals and industries can meet, collaborate and interact'."
As well as other social networking functions on the site, and regular short film competitions, the creators hope to grow HypTV into a talent agency, bringing together more established creative companies with new talent.
Bob Palmer, HypTV chief executive, said: "With such a melting pot of ideas we envisage Hyp as more of a culture than a TV channel - picking up on the blurring of boundaries, a place where everyone - including brands - can mingle with each other. It's also, of course, a great opportunity for talent to air their work to the people who matter in their field".
