GCap Media has announced the appointment of Paul Jackson as managing director of its London radio station, Capital 95.8.
Jackson moves over from Virgin Radio, where he was chief executive, and will have responsibility for overseeing programming, marketing, new media and commercial opportunities for Capital, reporting to GCap’s London managing director, Fru Hazlitt.
The Capital chief executive role has been vacant since the departure of Keith Pringle last year. Jackson joins at a tough time for the London station, having been beaten into fourth place in terms of market share by Emap's Kiss in the the latest Rajar figures, released earlier this month.
Hazlitt, also a former Virgin Radio chief executive, said: "The MD of Capital is probably the most high-profile job in commercial radio and we are delighted to have been able to recruit someone as talented as Paul. He has a brilliant track record, a broad set of skills and I am confident that Capital will flourish under his leadership."
At Virgin Radio, Jackson was the longest-serving programme director before becoming chief executive two years ago, after Hazlitt left to join GCap. Prior to that he has worked at Invicta FM, BRMB, Century and Beat 106, all now owned by GCap.
Jackson said: "I am thrilled to join Capital 95.8. It's the station I've always aspired to lead and to be given the opportunity to be MD at this time is both a great challenge and hugely exciting for me personally. I can't wait to get started!"
