Football beats rugby in Saturday ratings

Football was the victor in Saturday afternoon's ratings battle, giving BBC One the bigger audience share.
Live coverage of the England football team's Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel pulled in 6.1 million viewers and a 41% audience share for BBC One from 4.30pm.
The game's 90-minutes saw an average 6.9 million and a 44% share tune in, peaking for the final 15 minutes at 6.30pm with 8.6 million and a 48% share, as England claimed a 3-0 victory.
On ITV1, coverage of England's first game in the 2007 Rugby World Cup only managed 2.2 million and a 14.4% share, with 2.3 million and a 15.2% share for the actual match from 5pm. The audience peaked at 2.7 million and a 15.5% at 6.30pm with the team winning 28-10 against the USA.
