'CampaignTV' launches to support Labour
Published Tuesday, Oct 2 2007, 11:28 BST | By Joanne Oatts
A new internet TV station has launched with the aim of campaigning for the Labour Party.
CampaignTV is a non-profit initiative produced by independent production company Silverfish Creative. The site’s publisher, Gez Sagar, is a former chief press officer for the Labour Party who has worked in PR and campaigning for 20 years.
Other members of the management team are non-executive chairman Stewart Till, chairman of Millwall FC and a former UIP chief executive, and director Mark Lucas, who has previously worked on campaigns for the Labour Party.
Content for the channel includes an interview with Prime Minister Gordon Brown paying tribute to John Smeaton, who helped stop a suicide car bomb attack at Glasgow airport; Democrat Tad Devine reporting on the Presidential race in the US and a film from Lord Attenborough on the significance of the new Nelson Mandela statue in London's Parliament Square and a history of the anti-apartheid movement in the UK.
Regular slots include The Friday Interview with a leading politician or campaigner and The Debate Show which will bring together politicians, journalists, policy experts and activists.
"There is an ever-growing demand for films that support a progressive cause," said CampaignTV's publisher Gez Sagar. "CampaignTV is the place to find films making a case for the Labour Party, for trade unions and for other progressive campaigns. These films provide information, insights and the opportunity to hear politicians speaking in their own terms, outside the conventions of traditional media."
