'Martin' nearly doubles 'Murphy'

ITV1 drama Doc Martin attracted nearly double the viewing figures of BBC One's Murphy's Law last night.
While the first outing for the second series of the BBC James Nesbitt vehicle pulled in 4.1 million and a 17.8% share at 9pm, Martin Clunes' ITV1 series grabbed a massive 8.1 million viewers and a 34.6% share in the same slot, up 600,000 on last week's opening episode.
The first series of Murphy Law averaged 5.3 million and a 23.9% share last year.
The two programmes dominated viewing in the 9pm hour, with Channel 4's two-hour documentary The Great Wall of China managing 1.8 million and a 9% share, BBC Two's This World pulling in 1 million viewers and a 4.3% share, and Five's Living with Half a Brain attracting 1.1 million and a 4.9% share.
