BBC to focus on local, personal net services

The BBC has confirmed plans to "reinvent" its website to deliver a "digital step change".
The corporation sees its plans as key to remaining "relevant in the digital age" where audiences for its broadcast television services are becoming increasingly fragmented.
BBC.co.uk will be rebuilt to deliver more on-demand video and audio, new multimedia search capabilities, new automated programme websites and a new archive portal. Pages across the site will be tagged, web 2.0-style, to produce aggregated topic pages and existing navigation will be replaced with a new map-based system.
iPlayer will be a key part of the revamped website and will feed into new localised, personalised services - some subject to public value tests - including MyBBCRadio, MyNewsNow, MyLocalNow and a new multimedia knowledge site. Tools to share content will be extend beyond the existing "share" links on BBC News to include rating, tagging and uploading functions.
The new local websites will bring together the BBC's regional TV news and radio output into a single consistent interface.
