Global Radio and Sky have halted plans to launch Sky News Radio on LBC's 1152AM frequency in London and nationally on Channel 4's new digital radio multiplex.
In a joint statement, the two companies explained:
"Sky and Global Radio have confirmed that they do not intend to proceed with their proposed joint venture to launch a dedicated news radio service. The decision has been made for commercial reasons and follows the takeover by Global Radio of Chrysalis... Sky, Global and other third parties are exploring alternative options to launch a Sky News Radio Service."
Sky News Radio would have replaced LBC News 1152AM, currently a companion rolling news service to newstalk station LBC 97.3 FM, in the capital.
