Two applications to run the Gloucestershire local digital radio multiplex have been sent into Ofcom.
The GCap Media-owned Now Digital bid proposes to provide eleven digital stations on the multiplex: Severn Sound, Gold, Chill, XFM, Star 107.5, Jack FM, Sunshine, UCB, traffic radio, plus two unnamed easy listening and dance stations. It would use three transmitters to provide the service starting in December 2008, providing estimated coverage of 75.4% of adult listeners.
A rival bid from MuxCo, a consortium made up of UKRD, Murfin Media, Town & Country Broadcasting and MuxCo Ltd, would provide ten stations: Severn Sound, Gold, Star 107.5, Smithy Rock, Local Live, Easy Radio, Shuffle, UCB, traffic radio and an unnamed variety rock and pop station. It has also proposed to deliver podcasts "provided by a range of companies". It would use four transmitters to deliver the service starting in October 2008, providing estimated coverage of 79% of adult listeners.
Both proposals would also carry BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
Ofcom is accepting views on the applications until January 3.
