BBC Radio 1's third in command Sam Steele has left to join radio producer Wise Buddah.

She had been at the station for eight years as executive producer of speech and campaigns and created Switch with Annie Mac and Surgery with Kelly Osbourne.

Steele has won seven Radio Academy Awards and was third-in-command after controller Andy Parfitt and head of programmes Ben Cooper.

From January 14 she will be head of programmes at Wise Buddah with the role of maintaining commissions and developing programming and multimedia opportunities.

Founder and managing director of the production company Mark Goodier commented: "We've been very successful as a small indie, but needed more key talent and a really innovative broadcaster to expand our existing portfolio of programmes and commissions."
