Karen O'Connor will lead the BBC's factual production base in London, the corporation has announced.
O'Connor, currently acting commissioning editor for BBC News and Current Affairs, will take up the post in January.
"The BBC's London Factual base is world-class," said O'Connor. "The range and depth of programmes is amazing with programmes from Horizon to Heston Blumenthal, Watchdog and The Culture Show to Crimewatch.
"Finding innovative ways to help that talent bring audiences to subjects and knowledge of great significance in a contemporary way, across all channels and platforms, is a tremendous opportunity and challenge."
BBC factual controller Keith Scholey said: "I'm delighted to welcome Karen O'Connor as the Head of London Factual.
"London Factual is the biggest factual production centre in the world covering a huge range of output.
"Karen's experience, skills and enthusiasm are going to help us drive this essential production house forward in new and exciting ways."
