The Money Programme editor Clive Edwards has been appointed executive editor and commissioning editor for television current affairs at the BBC.
Although the position itself is new, Edwards will effectively replace Karen O'Connor, who has already been appointed head of the BBC's factual production base in London.
"I'm delighted that a journalist of such experience and ability as Clive Edwards will be leading Television Current Affairs," said BBC director of news Helen Boaden. "His rock solid journalistic credentials, creative flair and commitment to serving all audiences will continue the very good work of the department."
Edwards said: "I am very excited to be given the opportunity to lead Current Affairs which produces so many outstanding programmes. I look forward to working with both the in-house team and the independents to make the output even stronger in the future. I've had a fantastic time at The Money Programme over the past six years and I wish them all the very best."
