Disney Channels EMEA is to launch its first entirely high definition channel in France and French-speaking nations on Friday.
Disney Cinemagic HD will be a premium family movie channel and, during its first year, broadcast about half its films in native high definition.
John Hardie, Disney Channels EMEA managing director, said a movie channel was the "ideal choice" for HD.
He added: "Using cutting edge technology to help create and distribute outstanding content is at the heart of everything we do at Disney and we’re delighted to have launched our first high definition channel."
The channel will be available to all Canalsat subscribers on channel 197 and begin at 8.30pm with the premiere of Brother Bear 2.
