Discovery US winding down UK office
Published Thursday, Mar 6 2008, 15:12 GMT | By Dave West
Discovery US is reducing its already minimal presence in the UK with the loss of a small number of jobs.
The broadcaster is said to be returning editorial control to its Washington DC base under new president and general manager John Ford.
British producers are expected to have to communicate directly with the US rather than through the small UK go-between operation.
Sources told Broadcast that the new arrangement may be easier for indies already working with Discovery US but would be more difficult for those looking to build links.
The company denied the London office was closing.
"We are in the very early stages of consultation with a small number of affected employees who work for Discovery Channel US, based in the UK, across development and production," said a spokesman.
"It is too early to comment on anything beyond that. This review in no way affects Discovery's UK-based businesses and channels or Discovery Networks UK and EMEA employees."
