The news broadcaster released a statement today, a week after Quest was arrested in New York's Central Park with what was believed to be methamphetamine.
"At this time, CNN's primary concern is for his health and wellbeing," it read. "We look forward to Richard returning to CNN International."
CNN declined to say when Quest - who is known for his quirky presenting style - was expected to return.
A judge told him he would not be prosecuted if he took part in drugs rehabilitation.
Tabloid reports following his arrest in the early hours of April 18 said police also found a sex toy in his shoe and a rope tied around his genitals.
