According to Fox, the service will be a simulcast of the original but with additional headlines and content overlayed in a "HD wing".
Initially the channel will be carried exclusively by Time Warner Cable in San Antonio, Texas, and several areas of New York.
Tim Carry, Fox News svp of affiliate relations, said: "We look forward to Fox News HD further enhancing the overall viewing experience of the number one cable news channel by delivering content through state-of-the-art technology."
Last year it was reported the channel would also be carried on DirecTV's US digital satellite service.
