The commercial video-on-demand service being developed by BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 will be launched under the name SeeSaw, according to a report.

The service, known so far as Project Kangaroo, may be delayed until next year, however. BBC Worldwide has yet to seek approval from the BBC Trust, while the project is also being investigated by the Office of Fair Trading.

Another key obstacle to progress is agreement between Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 on how it should work.

SeeSaw has now been chosen from a shortlist of names, sources told Media Week.

It was also confirmed today that Ashley Highfield, presently the BBC's director of future media and technology, will take over as chief executive of the project on July 1. He was given the position last month.

The name of the service is likely to be confirmed following Highfield's arrival.
