Viewers flock to Sunday 'Strictly'

Strictly Come Dancing's new Sunday results show did the business for BBC One last night with a peak of almost 9 million viewers.
The episode - screened over 50 minutes from 6.45pm - drew an average of 7.7 million (35.9%), up 900,000 on its debut last weekend. It peaked with 8.8 million (39.5%) halfway through.
At the same time ITV1 managed a paltry 3.4 million (19.4%) for an Emmerdale weddings retrospective, although the channel regained the lead at 7.45pm with coverage of the second Rugby World Cup semifinal. An average of 6.6 million (26.3%) saw Argentina beaten by South Africa, with a peak of 8.2 million (32%) tuning in at 9.15pm.
BBC One put up an admirable defence, starting with 5.8 million (22.4%) for Antiques Roadshow in the 8pm hour. Michael Palin's New Europe maintained 5.8 million (23.5%) from 9.
Elsewhere, Channel 4's Wife Swap took a severe beating from Top Gear in the 8pm hour, averaging 1.1 million (7.5%) against BBC Two's 5.2 million (20.1%).
