'Celeb BB' boss admits learning lessons

Big Brother commissioning editor Angela Jain has admitted "learning lessons" from January's Celeb BB debacle.

Speaking at a session for the Edinburgh TV Festival, Jain - also controller of E4 - admitted that the broadcaster had fallen short in managing the affair and in "getting it to screen".

"We were unaware of some of the stuff that was going on in the house," she said, referring to alleged racist comments not broadcast on the TV show. "[Being aware] is the job of the producer, it's not my responsibility. To my knowledge, it hasn't happened again."

Defending the show from its many critics, Jain described BB as a "phenomenal programme", with "an amazing capacity to reinvent itself".

She also confirmed that the version of BB due to air on E4 next January in place of Celeb BB would be "a Big Brother very specifically tailored for E4".
