International TV distribution arm, Buena Vista International Television, has done a deal that will bring Ugly Betty, currently on Channel 4 in the UK, to Spanish free-to-air TV.
Spanish broadcaster Cuatro will launch the Golden Globe-winning US series to its viewers later this year. The programme is based on Yo Soy Betty La Fea, a Colombian telenovela.
Tom Toumazis, executive vice president and managing director, BVITV EMEA & Canada, said: “We’re pleased to be working with Cuatro again to bring hit, schedule-driving US entertainment to its viewers. As US series continue their strong success worldwide, Ugly Betty looks set to win the hearts of international viewers, just as it has in the US.”
Cuatro has also picked up other Touchstone Television shows, “Day Breakand Six Degrees
