The comic, who plays dentist Bertram Pincus in the film, admitted that he cannot cope with only having his own role to occupy himself - as he usually has to worry about writing and directing too.
Gervais even joked that he may start taking crack cocaine in an attempt to solve his problem.
"I can't just be the leading man. It makes me go a bit mad," Gervais told the Daily Star. "I'm used to having to write or direct or come up with ideas, but nobody needs me to do that on this movie. So I think I might start taking crack."
The Office and Extras star upstaged Coldplay at one of the group's concerts last month.
