'Hancock' soars to number one in the US

Superhero action film Hancock has topped the US box office chart.

The Will Smith vehicle pulled in a $66 million take on its debut weekend on release, pushing Pixar's WALL-E down to second spot.

Hancock, which opened early last week to capitalise on the July 4 holiday, grossed $107 million in its five days on release.

Elsewhere in the chart, Indiana Jones continued to perform well, crossing the $300 million domestic mark on its seventh week in cinemas. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl entered the top ten as its limited release expanded to more theatres.
