Visual effects guru Charles Gibson will make his directorial debut with The Goblin.

Gibson, an Oscar winner for Babe and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, will helm the Geoff Rodkey-penned family comedy.

The plot centres on a family who move into a new suburban home and find a grumpy goblin objecting to their presence.

"It's about creating a goblin that will appeal to audiences of all ages," producer Matt Williams told Variety.

Rodkey's previous writing credits include RV, The Shaggy Dog and Daddy Day Care.
