Vin Diesel's action comedy The Pacifier went straight to number one in this week's North American box office chart.

The Pacifier, in which Diesel's Navy Seal has to protect a group of unruly children, took an estimated $30.2m (£15.7m) in its opening weekend, according to figures from Exhibitor Relations.

Be Cool, a sequel to Get Shorty starring John Travolta and Uma Thurman, entered the chart in second place with $23.5m (£12.2m).

Will Smith's romantic comedy Hitch slipped to third place, while last week's number one, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, was moved to fourth place.
