The movie will see Swank travel to a small religious town in Texas to investigate incidents which seem to be connected to the ten Biblical plagues.
James Cox will direct the production for Dark Castle, which has brought us the likes of Gothika, Thirteen Ghosts and Ghost Ship.
Reuters quotes Dark Castle's Joel Silver as saying: "This is exciting for us. She [Swank] is fantastic, and it's a great opportunity to do something special with a really great actress.
"These higher-end actresses, like Halle in Gothika and Nicole [Kidman] with The Others, they look at these movies and say, let's see if we can do something great," he added.
