'Kong' is King at US box office

Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong entered the US box office chart at the top last weekend, taking $50.1m.

Kong's success forced last week's chart-topper, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, to second place. The C.S. Lewis adaptation earned $31.2m over the weekend, a 52% drop from the previous one.

The Family Stone enjoyed a modest opening in third place, whilst Harry Potter slipped another place to fourth.
