I went into this movie honestly wanting to like it. You know how it goes...at some point, against your hopes, you realize that you don't like the movie you're watching, but you keep watching, hoping it will get better, bit it only gets worse. The "easter eggs" were cringe worthy, counldn't have been worse if Singer screamed to the audience how much he loved the first movie. Yes, I got that. If only he had read a comic and realized that the movie he loved was based on a comic book. It's like trying to do Lawrence of Arabia part two. what's the point? if you're going to tell Lawrence's story, go to the SOURCE MATERIAL and tell your story from there. Disney did it with their animations back in the day...it's why shrek keeps getting worse...they only reference what goes before it. I wish he had made x-men 3. but he didn't. I hope Warner's is taking notes from the Dark Knight.

I really enjoyed the film, and was surprised at its seeming lack of popularity. Routh does do a very good job, Reeve's boots are pretty big but he fills them very well. You do have to have seen the original films (I and II in particular) to understand some of the plot, especially the areas surrounding Jason, but it's very enjoyable even without a full understanding of it. Some major twists, and the ending was not what you'd expect to happen at all, yet cleverly done. There will definitely be another one- they can't leave it like that!

A really successful return to the big screen for one of the most well loved superheroes!! I really enjoyed this film, the musical score and opening ensured that the original movies were not forgotten. Brendan Routh did a great job as Superman. It was a bit too long though but you should still go see it!

Gorgeous film, just visually stunning. Well scripted, beautifully acted and quite obviously made with such a love and respect for the source material that it almost (I stress, ALMOST) made me forget the horrors of X3 for a minute. This was a true cinematic legend and I for one look forward to the franchise continuing.

With a lot of apprehension about this film having loved Chris Reeves portrayal I was dragged by a very excited 16 year old to see this. And boy am I glad, without sounding awful Brandon Routh seems to capture the Superman and Clark Kent in the same light that Chris Reeves did. It is exciting, romantic, sad and happy all at the same time no matter what a contradiction of terms that is. Superman Fans will love it!

Seen the film three times now and after each time I still wanted more. Absolutely great. Bryan Singer has worked his magic on this and Brandon Routh was just the best. They couldn't have found a better replacement for the late great Christopher Reeve. Special effects were awesome. Now you can believe a man can fly. 34 out of 10.

Thouroughly enjoyable. Nice nods to the first of the Christopher Reeve films. Surprised that there was a decent story and the movie was not just reliant on the FX.

For many years anybody under the age of 25 hasnt claimed the iconic Superman in the way Christopher Reeve was for those who saw the original, now we have that Superman!Brandon Routh shines in the role of the Man Of Steel and is truly amazing. Bosworth isnt as good as Lois but thats a writing error IMO. Spacey truly conveys a mad evil villain. The effects are amazing the pace is just right and if you really like Superman the time issue wont be a problem as I found myself wanting more at the end! The twist at the end I hated in the cinema but its grown on me a lot now and it just depends on how the sequel (if there is one) goes. I think its the best Superhero movie I have ever seen and I never found myself bored not even once! A must for everybody who loves movies!

Me and the wife went to see Superman Returns on Sunday - we loved it. Using the music from the Christopher Reave films was a stroke of genius - no other music would do. Brandon Routh's portrayal of Superman and Clark Kent was exellent and the similarities between him and Christopher Reave uncanny. Kevin Spacey was a good choice to play Lex Luthor: he played the part with both comedy and menace - though in my opinion mainly comedy. The only let down was the casting of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane - she's too young for the part and her acting too wooden. A good supporting cast helped make this movie an enjoyable one but would I watch it again? Yes, when the DVD comes out.

Being a massive fan of Superman from the first time I went to the cinema and found out a man could fly I was really excited about seeing the new film. One word explains how I felt - "WOW"

I watched this film last Friday afternoon and thought it was very good indeed. Routh is very well cast as Kent/Superman and plays both roles fantastically well. Spacey was excellent as Luthor but I was a tad let down by Kate Bosworth. I didn't buy her portrayal of Lois Lane and thought she was quite transparent. The special effects were terribly well done and the homage to the original films via the opening credits was a nice touch. The only complaint I would have is that it was a tad long and slow in some spots.

Loved superman 1,2,3, 4 was terrible, 5(or should that be returns) is ok. Just seemed too little action to me, too much talking, lots of confusing leads. I would see it again although I thought 15 rating would be better, especially for one fighting scene.

The hype surrounding this film has to be the biggest since the first of the "new" Star Wars films, and I have to say it didn't disappoint me one single bit - Unlike the "new" Star Wars films. From start to end I thought the continuation of the story from the original films was excellent, and the action scenes were the best I have seen for years (since the matrix). To see a man send shockwaves through the body of a jumbo as he tries to stop it heading towards the ground is awesome!!! Already looking for stuff regarding a sequel - I am that excited by this film!!!!!

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! I eagerly waited for this with very high hopes, and waited to be let down. But i wasn't, it was better than I expected, plot was excellent, and it followed on perfectly from the 1st and 2nd Donner films. I loved the little "Easter eggs" (if you will) such as the "statistically speaking flying is still the safest way to travel" and the iconic 1st edition of superman comic book pose. Brilliant twist at the end, which leaves you upset at how far 2009 is for a possible sequel.

Saw the film yesterday, it was fantastic! Byran Singer's love for the original film and the characters is clearly evident here.

I found the film immensely disappointing. Where was the humour, the adventure, the heart of the previous films? I'd admit the need for an update if it had been an improvement, but this is Superman as a shadow of his former self. I loved the X Men movies, what went wrong here? Brandon Routh was fine, Kevin Spacey didn't get a chance to shine - the plot let them both down badly.

Being a massive fan of the original movies i have been looking forward to this movie like no other movie. I liked star wars as a kid, but i LOVED superman. As soon as the credits started I was blown away, it was great to see that Singer had kept the same intro with the titles zooming out at you, I was moved it took me straight back to being an excited kid watching the originals with my parents. This time I sat there with my wife but the excitement remained. From that moment on I was glued to the screen, I can honestly say I enjoyed every single moment of this movie, great performances from Routh and Spacey, fantastic effects and a strong story to get this franchise up and running again. You'll love this movie, it'll take you back 20 years, roll on the next one.

Superman Returns Stinks. This is the first movie I have ever wanted to walk out of after 20 mins. The characters were weak and one-dinemnsional, with very little interaction between anyone but Lois and Superman. It felt like two different movies stitched together. The whole 40s influence in styling failed completely. And what's with the extras? Each crowd scene, be it the Daily Planet or the bar or the hospital, is packed with extras. The film fails to either have a sense of reality (as in Batman Begins or the original Superman) or hyper-reality (Tim Burton's Batman.) The so-called "twist" at the end does not work on any believeable level, and leads you thinking that Superman 2 is going to be a remake of Kramer vs Kramer. I came home feeling depressed and cheated. The only compensation was to put on my DVD of the original movie, which made me realise just how well they nailed it the first time around.

It's easily better than Batman Begins, not to say the rejuvenation of Batman was a bad thing but Superman is by far a superior film. Brandon Routh does a stunning tribute to the late great Christopher Reeve by impersonating all of Clark Kent's mannerisms to a tee while also being careful not to mock, and even manages to sneak in more humanity to his Superman alter ego than Reeve ever managed. As for the decision to use the traditional score from the old films, pure genius, I couldn't stop smiling every time it began and I found myself back in my childhood staring at a hero I thought I'd saw the last of. Bring on the sequel - where Superman was Krypton's gift to Earth, Bryan Singer is most definitely Hollywood's.

I have just been to see this film and I will say what a brilliant film it was. I grew up with Christopher Reeve, so enjoyed the previous films, except 4 cos that was a bit weak. When someone tries to remake a film or add their own take on a film, sometimes it doesn't work and can be completely ruined. This film wasn't, it kept to the original way the films were, it didn't mess with the format, the possibility of changing Superman's character, messing with the music, I'm glad that they didn't. A thoroughly enjoyable film although I thought that the 12a rating was a little low, part of the film suited a 15 instead. It makes a change to go pay to see a film, and not be out of the cinema within the hour. Some films don't justify the price but at 2.5 hours, this was great!

I saw this yesterday and I loved it. I recommend that everyone sees it.

Having grown up with the Dean Cain/Teri Hatcher version of the Superman story and having recently become a fan of the small screen series Smallville I eagerly awaited this film. The Christopher Reeve films were characteristic of film making at that time. I hoped to be seeing a much updated film freed by today's technology having seen its excellent effect on other comic book turned films, notably Spiderman and Batman. I was seriously disappointed by this film rating it the worst of all superman I have seen, be it tv screen or silver screen. The film started very slowly ending up with the action segment feeling very rushed whimsical, the tv series plots of hero vs. villain have been much better, realistic and with fewer plot holes. The traditional "coming out" dilemma with the love triangle with Lois Lane was vapor. I found Kate Bosworth's Lois much worse than even Routh's wooden acting. Kevin Spacey's potential was ruined by writing him a character as three-dimensional as a piece of paper. The setup in this film for a sequel was disappointingly obvious and candid. I could go on but the final verdict is seriously disappointed with this film that had the potential to go so much further.

I seen this film last night. For this film I think you need to have watched at least one of the old films, to work out who is who. Otherwise you are left guessing. But for the first 45 minutes it was so slow, but it does get better and better. I will not spoil the film for you,but at the end I went WOW. A real twist leaving you in no doubt, there will be another one
