Following the success of resurrected action franchises like Die Hard and Rambo, film makers have now started trying to entice Mel Gibson to shoot a new Lethal Weapon picture.

The Braveheart actor was asked to bring back his iconic role as Martin Riggs for a fifth installment a year ago, but at the time Gibson turned it down.

Now that Bruce Willis's Live Free or Die Hard has made a come back success this year, movie bosses now hope it could sway Gibson into finally agreeing.

An insider at Warner Brothers told Moviehole: "There's more Lethal talk. Apparently the whole trend of resurrecting old action heroes, like John McClane and John Rambo has spurred them on. Twelve months after Gibson turned down the offer to do a fifth one, they're trying again."

Director Richard Donner also expressed interest in the project quite recently, having said: "It's up to Mel. If he says 'yes' then there's another Lethal Weapon. I have a great story, I'd love to do it and put Lethal Weapon to bed."
