Bob Hoskins blames the failure of the Super Mario Bros movie on its directors.

The adaptation of the popular Nintendo computer game, based around the character of an Italian plumber, was a flop at the box office.

Hoskins has accused the movie's directors, married couple Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel of showing an "arrogance" in the film's production.

The Who Framed Roger Rabbit actor said: "[It was] the worst thing I ever did. Super Mario Brothers. It was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent.

"After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set. F*****g nightmare. F*****g idiots. That's the nature of the game, the whole experience was a nightmare."
