The Oscar-winner's script for a movie called Tetro was stored on a computer seized in the raid in Buenos Aires.
Five men broke into the property on Wednesday, tying up and beating several members of staff before making off with computers and camera equipment.
The 68-year-old was not at home at the time but has said the news left him feeling "very sad".
His spokesperson said: "They were looking for money, and they did not find it because there wasn't any. They took computers and other digital devices.
"The only thing we want to ask, on behalf of Mr Coppola, is that they please return at least the information that is inside his computer, which holds all his creative work of a very long time."
