Gellar denies 'Alice' movie rumours

'Southland Tales'

Sarah Michelle Gellar has dismissed claims that she has been dropped from her latest movie.

The actress has been attached to Alice - a "dark" version of the Alice In Wonderland story - since June 2005.

The film sees the title character (Gellar) returning to the surreal world after being released from a mental hospital and finding her family dead.

It is based on the cult computer game created by designer American McGee for Electronic Arts.

Gellar told Radio Free: "It's a passion project of mine. It's a story that I'd love to see. I'm fearful at this rate that I'm going to be the Queen of Hearts because I'm going to be too old to be Alice.

"It's something I'd really like to see done. And unfortunately, it was the victim of regime change in the studio. And I'm not getting out. And contrary to what you may have read, it's still my project."

Tim Burton is planning a 3D version of the Lewis Carroll story, while Dakota Fanning is being lined up to star in a traditional adaptation.
