London critics honour 'No Country'

The London Film Critics' Circle has given its Film of the Year award to No Country For Old Men.

Ian Curtis biopic Control took British Film of the Year at the circle's annual ceremony on Saturday, while its lead Sam Riley and director Anton Corbijn won breakthrough awards.

Chairman Marianne Gray said: "With so many strong contenders from both the US and the UK our voters have been spoilt for choice this year. So it's encouraging to see a small black-and-white movie like Control do so well."

However, No Country's top honour was the latest in a string for the Joel and Ethan Coen-directed title.

Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor for There Will Be Blood and Marion Cotillard Best Actress for La Vie En Rose.

Best British Actress went to Julie Christie for Away From Her over Keira Knightley. Atonement's James McAvoy won Best British Actor, however, and co-star Vanessa Redgrave took Best British Supporting Actress award jointly with Kelly Macdonald in No Country.
