Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter have been cast in Last House on the Left, reports Variety.

The film is a remake of Wes Craven's 1972 horror film about escaped prisoners who abduct two teenage girls and take refuge in one of the girls' homes after leaving her for dead.

The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) banned the original from a UK cinema release in 1974 due to the sadistic nature of the film. Last House is still yet to have a full theatrical release in the UK but was put out on DVD in 2003 after 31 seconds of footage was cut.

Craven is producing the remake with Dennis Iliadis directing. The script comes from Mark Haslett, Carl Ellsworth and Adam Alleca.

The Rogue Pictures film begins shooting this month in South Africa.

Goldwyn, also a director, has previously appeared in The Last Samurai and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Potter's last big-screen role was in 2004's Saw.
